Daugavpils Centre Secondary School (Daugavpils Centra vidusskola) was established in 1962. There are 626 pupils and 56 teachers. Our school is a modern educational establishment with great development perspectives and potentials and open to constructive changes. Usually pupils start their studies at the age of 7 and finish at the age of 19. They are very motivated and interested in communicating and collaborating with students from other European schools and other international youth. Our teachers are well-educated, experienced, enthusiastic, and creative and are ready to contribute into the project. Several years ago our school was awarded the title of the school of innovative experience (Excellence School). It means that our educational establishment has the right to share experience with other Latvian schools in the fields of Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Our school has a lot of rewards and achievements in different fields from exact science to various social events on international, national and local levels. Our school is involved in different projects. Our school staff regularly develops its professional competence participating within Erasmus + programme throughout Europe. It allows us to find partners to collaborate with, to share new experience and best practices with others. We are rather experienced in taking part in numerous Erasmus+Youth in Action Programmes which allows us to develop competences, become aware of socially relevant topics, discover new cultures, and strengthen values like solidarity, democracy and tolerance. As well our school actively participates in social projects to reduce social tension such as “Stop early school leaving”. Another project is “Support for the development of individual competencies of students”. In the course of project implementation, special attention is paid to the individual capacity and needs of pupils as well as behavioural disorders, so that each learner feels fully involved in the learning process. “Health promoting school” project provides theoretical knowledge and practical advice to all interested through different activities for changing and improving health habits. One of our school directions is robotics for students to help them develop their critical thinking and creativity using modern devices. For many years our school has been actively involved in the project “Pupils` Training Company” to educate young generations of entrepreneurs and experts by linking theoretical knowledge to practice in the learning process. It enhances creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. Having the common goal our educational establishment contributes into reduction of social tension in society and all- round development of students` competences.
ACTIVITIES AND EXPERIENCE
The staff of our school is highly educated and is constantly raising its professionalism, skills and experience taking part in various professional development courses, seminars, workshops, conferences and social projects on the local and international levels. Our colleagues are very creative – they are full of ideas; enthusiastic – they are willing to share experience and ready to learn themselves; innovative – in raising students’ motivation and interest in studies; collaborative – working in team and reaching common goals. Participating in local and international projects gives us a unique opportunity to develop language skills, communicative competence and intercultural awareness. Our team consists of highly educated professionals, including pedagogy, project management, information technology and social psychology. We are open for international collaboration to promote European cohesion. Jurijs Visockis: he is the headmaster of Daugavpils Centre Secondary school and is in charge of many aspects, such as planning, school organisation, teaching, supervision, guidance, maintaining relations and general administration. Since 2011, he has been working as informatics, programming basics and technical graphics teacher. He is very creative, responsible and socially active. He is developping and establishing programmes for processing learning achievements and various electronic databases. He is affectively using the social media platforms for the school popularization in society. Tatyana Baranovska: Master of Biology, a lecturer (Daugavpils University, Latvia), a mentor and a school teacher (Biology, Chemistry, Science and Handicrafts) with 19 years of experience of working with children, youth, adults and families. She encourages and enables students to develop inquiring minds and curiosity about science and the natural world. Her working experience is very wide. She is a biology methodologist at the Innovative Experience School of the Latvian National Centre for Education; she is a member of the project group "Science and Maths” at the Centre for Curriculum and Examination; a head of Methodological Association of Biology, Chemistry and Natural Sciences in Daugavpils Education Department, Latvia. She is involved in the process of development, approbation and improvement of methodological materials. She has participated and led different projects and scientific research. She does volunteer job and an active member of the Latvian Red Cross to encourage respect for other human beings and a willingness to work together to find solutions to community problems. Galina Ostrovska: her experience includes working in secondary and vocational schools as biology and health studies teacher. She also has a long-term experience in local Municipality Police as a senior inspector of a preventive work with youth. She has been working as a social educator in our school since 2010. Her job involves diagnosing of socialising problems, identifying the social and economic problems of families, analysing the respect for the rights of children and young people in families, promoting the social needs of children, taking care of the safety and health of pupils and in developing and implementing of individual behavioural adjustment programmes. Aleksandra Truskovska: she is one of project coordinators and a certified English teacher, a debate coach, a lecturer at Medical college with 26 years of experience working with students. She teaches students to acquire the linguistic competence necessarily required in various life situations. She is experienced in European projects Erasmus+ and local ones to improve the quality and efficiency of education and training and to promote social cohesion and active citizenship. Natalja Kalinina: she is one of project co-coordinators as well and a certified English teacher with 23 year working experience. She is able to assess and evaluate student progress effectively.
